  1. This is one of my all-time favorite dishes - comfort food at its best! I'd been wondering if anyone else made it this way. My mother has been making this for 20 yrs. and it's been our family's traditional Christmas Eve meal for almost as long. Even my picky dad has grown to love it. It just wouldn't be Christmas without this delicious dish.

  2. I made the recipe as is and gave it only 2 stars. First off, it was very bland like other reviewers said. Also, it had an odd flavor which I attribute to using red wine vinegar instead of plain white vinegar. Thirdly, it was way too sweet. So as written, it gets only two stars. I doctored it up with adding more white vinegar, spices, another gravy packet. It was palatable, but it is overly sweet. I am going to make this again but cut back on the sugar and add more WHITE vinegar.

  3. This was a fabulous recipe that will become a standard recipe in our household. Rich delicious sauce and melt in your mouth steak that reminded me of something my grandmother used to make. I used pre-tenderized round steak and served with mashed potatoes and veggies.

  4. I made this as it was printed -- it was very sweet and didn't have the tang I expected from the vinegar. Family gave it a 3... but probably won't make it again. Sorry.

  5. This is a wonderful recipe,we loved it and I will be making it again for sure! I used a roasted garlic, red wine dry gravy mix, it was delicious! Served it over garlic mashed potatoes with carrots and celery on the side. Delicious supper, thanks for posting.
