Rosy Pakistani Macaroni Dessert

"I recently purchased some "Rooh-Afza" or Rose Syrup in an Indian Grocers. I found a few recipes for it here on Zaar but this is one I found on a web search at www.nagpuronline.com. It's quite different to any other dessert I've had but tasty. The recipe as written specified 6tsp of cardoman & 3 tblsp rose water but I didn't use anywhere near those amounts so feel free to adjust those 2 ingredients to your tastes"

  1. Yum! This made a lovely dessert. Reminded me of the falooda we eat back home in India. Apart from eating it with ice cream, we sometimes put falooda in our rose or pistachio milkshakes too. Will try the same with this recipe too. Thanks for posting!

  2. This is a good recipe to top a scoop of ice cream. Mostly in Pakistan, instead of macaroni, agar noodles are used. This dessert is called falooda. I sometimes substitute small jello squares for noodles.

  3. What an interesting & different dessert, & VERY NICE TASTING, too! I made my own rose syrup from a recipe here on Zaar & made rose water, too, & that worked fine for me! I liked the idea of the pistachios & probably used more than others would (1/4 cup altogether)! I really enjoyed making this one! Thanks for sharing! [Made & reviewed on the World Tour 4 as part of the Asian Challenge #2: The Countries of Asia, as a recipe of Pakistan origin]

Melbourne I live on a 5 acre property in the Dandenong Ranges Victoria, Australia, having moved from the burbs when I became pregnant with my now 15 year old daughter Alyssa. Once my daughter was born I became a stay at home mum as I couldn't bear the thought of putting her in daycare. She is the light of my life, I never imagined myself as a mum when younger but now wouldn't have it any other way. Alyssa was made a big sister on the 19th April 2010 when our cheeky little boy Blake was born. I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes so quickly become addicted to Zaar as it was previously known & still use it regularly. In addition to being my kids taxi  I also spend my time, reading, gardening and of course shopping. I'm lucky enough that we have the space & so love growing our own fruits, vegies & herbs, this also means we have plenty of room for animals & at the moment have 2 dogs, Max, a Jackshund who's 6, Fletcher, a Kelpie who's 4, 6 cats Snowpea, Fergus, Ginger, Tango, Annie & Cookie, 4 chooks & 2 Ducks. As well as our pets, we also have a lot of native animals around our area, we have kangaroos, wombats, echidna's, possums as well as rosella's, galah's & Cockatoo's hence the name of where I live..
