Was disappointed with this dish. It was quite bland compared to other curries I have made. I followed it exactly except for leaving out the cayenne so the kids could eat it. I had to add cayenne to mine to give it a boost but then it just tasted spicy...it didn't add any richness to the flavour. It smelt amazing but the taste just didn't deliver.
I made a vegetarian variant ( 1kg protein = potato + chickpeas) of this dish and it turned out pretty well. The only change I'd make is less oil, and maybe use ghee instead of the oil. I'll have to try it out with meat when my girlfriend is out of town!
Great recipe. Made this with chicken, I decreased the cayenne pepper to keep it mild for kids. Everyone loved it!
This is an incredible dish. I used the food processor to finely chop the onion, and I think it was actually too fine. A good workover with a chef's knife would be better. Lamb needs to be in 1-inch chunks. Anything smaller seems to disappear.
This recipe was so easy to follow and delicious as well! All my kids (9, 7, 3 yrs) had a bowl and then asked for more. I used lamb shoulder chops and cut it up as best I could, as I didn't have any other meat in the house, and it worked just fine. I'll be making this recipe again!
ive tried rogan josh before and it was just a glorified tomato curry. This however is soooo tasty and rich. The only thing i add is a tablespoon of tomato puree at the end to thicken and bring the sauce together more.
You are a star, Julie for posting this recipe, of course the spices you sent me helped, it was a great curry the best Ive ever made. I do miss Indian food as its not available were we live, but this dish cured my cravings. Thanks for posting this recipe.

Chris
Just made this for dinner with boneless chicken thighs and wow it is ever good. I used smoked paprika and threw in some potatoes (best to par-cook them ahead of time so they cook through during the process) and frozen peas. Very easy as most Indian recipes I've made in the past call for grinding the spice mix together, in this case most everything is whole spice. I typically order rogan josh at restaurants as a staple and this one is as good if not better than any restaurant version I've had. I highly recommend this recipe.
We love our lamb in Australia and I have used this recipe a couple of times - love it! Suggest you stir in the yogurt before you return the meat to the pan (easier to blend and stir) and if you prepare this in a dutch oven (pot you can use on the stove and in the oven) when its all ready to simmer you can just pop it in a low oven for a couple of hours and walk away and do other things.
