This was great! The second time I made this dish I added some red pepper flakes (about a 1/2 tsp.) to give some heat to this spiced soup. Served with flame heated tortillas instead of naan, a dollup of sour cream, and some cilantro. Dreamy...

This was good! I used split red lentils because that's the only kind I can find and only added 2 cups water (we like thicker soups) but followed all other directions to a "T". We served Roti / Phulkas #90817 on the side, which went really well and added a dollop of yogurt on top. I was kind of surprised that this did not taste more spiced, considering how many/how much spices are in it. I was very happy with the flavor the sesame seeds and the almost caviar-like black mustard seeds bursting in your mouth. Tasty. This is a good recipe.

Outstanding introduction to lentils for my young boys! Although it wasn't thier "favorite" it was a hit! Delicious flavor, subtle yet aromatic. I did add heapping measureings. Thanks Sue, it's great!

I liked this soup very much but it had a slightly bitter taste. Next time I make it, I think I'll top it with a scoop of sour cream.

Loved this soup. The only thing that I did not have was cumin but it came out great anyway. 2nd time, I added cooked ground chicken, and chicken broth. Since I had some spinach, I put some in the soup with some sprinkles of cheese, and that was delicious too.

I should have known this fantastic recipe would be yours, Sue... you never fail to post stuff I love. We made this exactly as written and both loved the pants off it! (You don't see it wearing pants in the pictures, do you? :D) This is a great lentil soup that's packed with flavor, has restaurant quality depth of flavor, and really not at all difficult to make. I served this with Chicken Korma, basmati, naan, raita, malai kofta and delicious mango lassis. Perfect! Thank you, Sue!

YUM!! We served this as part of an Indian banquet...it went over really well. I expecially enjoyed the addition of sesame seeds it gave it a unusual texture. Dont change a thing...it's perfect as written.
Thanks for sharing, this soup will make it to our table again and again over the winter months.

Great soup for a chilly day! I changed it a bit, adding 2 chopped green chiles, a cup of spinach (because i wanted to use it!), and a cup of tomato pulp instead of a fresh tomato (because i realized i didn't have one). It turned out spicy and delicious!

This is a great lentil soup recipe which is easy to prepare and tastes great. Quite hearty. If you like chili, it would not go astray in this recipe.
