This is not only the easiest roast but the best I've EVER made! I too threw in potatoes and baby carrots - on top of the Lipton Onion Soup Mix I diced some vidalia onion for extra flavor and added that wonderful 1/2 cup of red cooking wine - it made it even more juicy! My family loved it and the sandwiches the next day were just as good.
*Made for Australia/NZ Swap #32* Took this lovely simple recipe and added all but the kitchen sink ! Had a few potatoes and onions handy, and found some baby carrots in the frig drawer, tossed about 1/2 red wine over, and topped with the onion soup mix ! It was a One Bag very flavorful meal, with effortless cleanup ! Thanks for posting, Annie !
It doesn't get any easier than this. Very good roast recipe. I couldn't find a bolar roast at the market, so the man in the meat department showed me a roast that would be comparable. I made this in a cooking bag in my crock pot. The roast turned out very tender and the gravy that I made from the drippings was very good. I can't wait to have roast beef sandwiches tomorrow for lunch. Thanks for sharing such an easy and tasty recipe, Stardustannie.
This was not bad. DH thought the soup gave it a sour taste and asked me to leave it out next time. I used the juices from the roast and made gravy using Brown Gravy Mix to go along with it.
Shaz, this is delicious. It was very humid and hot here today so instead of turning on my large oven I cooked this in my crockpot in the oven bag. I turned it on high for the first 2 hours and then turned down to low for maybe another 2 hours. If you are going to cook on high in the crockpot it's important to watch as the oven bag expands and the lid may come off. When I was buying the oven bags there was a lady next to me buying some too. She was telling me this is how she always cooks her roasts. Along with the onion soup mix in step one she suggested adding about 1 tablespoon flour so the sauce thickens up while cooking. I didn't try her idea as I wanted to try your recipe exactally first but will add the flour next time I cook it to see how it goes. I used a packet of Maggi Onion Soup mix. The roast was extremely tender and very tasty with amazing gravy. Thanks for posting a winner recipe.
This was an excellent roast, Stardustannie, very tender and the juices did make an excellent gravy. After an hour in the oven I ended up poking a couple of holes in the bag, I was so worried it was going to explode. I used a 1.9kg bolar roast and cooked it for 2 hours at 200C. Served with Jewelies Smashed Potatoes, peas, carrots and corn on the cob. Delicious and easy!!
