This recipe is so easy yet so good! It has a secret ingredient which you'd swear was sausage, it is so addicting and warmed up the next day--- watch out! It is great for potlucks, keeps warm well.
- 2 cups Minute Rice
- 1⁄2 cup margarine
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 14 ounces chicken broth
- 1 (8 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
- 1 cup Grape-nuts cereal
- Brown minute rice, maragarine and onion in pan.
- Add chicken broth and mushrooms.
- When rice is done;add grape nuts.
The Grape Nuts flavor with the rice just didn't really work for us. They kept their crunch more than I thought they would and had a bit of an off-taste with the rice. Definitely didn't taste like sausage to us. I'm very sorry I couldn't leave a more positive review.
This was really good. I didn't add as much margarine but the lack of it didn't make a difference in the texture or the taste. Even my fil who hates mushrooms loved it. The "secret" ingredient is tasty, and not crunchy. What a great quick, different pilaf. Thanks Missjuliee for another good healthy addition for my cookbook.
