This recipe was given to me by a long time friend and has been handed down for generations in her family...hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

  1. Pre heat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Cream butter & sugar.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time.
  4. Combine cocoa powder and red food coloring.
  5. Add cocoa/food coloring mixture to the butter, sugar & egg mixture.
  6. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Add vanilla.
  8. Add flour and salt, but alternate adding in buttermilk at the same time.
  9. Pour vinegar in a small bowl.
  10. Sprinkle baking soda into the vinegar.
  11. Pour vinegar mixture in with the batter.
  12. Pour batter into (2) round 9 inch pans.
  13. Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  14. Frost with icing of your choice.
