I really wasn't sure about this one, but decided to try it. WOW am I glad. I don't think I let the potatoes drain quite enough, but no problem. They still soaked up the dill juice (and maybe a little water). I think I added the mayo mixture before they were cool enough, but again, no problem. I couldn't wait to try it, and even warm, delicious!!! Can't wait for this bowl of potato salad to get cold, and sit a while. I used Nathan's pickles and pickle juice, and Kraft mayo, and made my own buttermilk. Wonderful.

Super easy! I was looking for something just a little bit different that my usual recipe and this is a keeper. I didn't have buttermilk and only had normal potatoes but still turned out fab. I upped the amount of mustard but that is just personal preference.

WOW - I'm not usually a fan of potato salad - would leave it at a potluck for sure....but was intreaged by this because I love dill pickles....now I only used a 2 lb bag of small red potatoes as we are a small family and YES it's wonderful warm or at room temp - probably better than cold! Very easy to make as well. Also, I used dill relish rather than cutting up dill pickles for convenience.

Yum! Almost ashamed to admit but when I tasted it while warm to check seasoning.....why do you have to cool it down anyways? It was great warm. It is equally delicious cold. I just came in to post my five star review and that I had followed the recipe exactly and in reading the other reviews realized I had not added mustard. I went back and added it and yep....still a FIVE! I've spent fifteen years trying to duplicate my husband's Mom's potato salad and now....I'm claiming my own "style" and this is it. Maybe someday my son can tell his wife she can't make potato salad like his mom did! :) Thanks for a great recipe. It was for tomorrow's Easter meal but I have a feeling we will have only macaroni salad left.

We really liked this recipe. Not too many ingredients to overwhelm you in this, just enough. Really great flavor, I made as is with adding a little more mustard and salt to taste. Thanks for posting, this may be my "go to" potato salad recipe!

It was very good I like the buttermilk. I think that made a diffrence. I left out the eggs, I am not a big fan of them.

The original recipe is awesome! I can't help but add chopped bacon to mine. Also made once subbing chopped cilantro instead of dill (didn't have any) and was a nice variation.

This is one great recipe! I used gherkins instead of dill and added some chopped chives and parsley, everything else was as per recipe. I only got to serve half the salad with dinner as DD tasted it beforehand and sat down to a plate full of this warm before dinner! DS and his GF loved this salad and there was a bit of a fight over who should take the leftovers for lunch next day. Everyone loved this salad, this is a definate to make again! Thanks Mom2Rose for a great recipe.

This is my new recipe for potato salad. My whole family and friends request it when we get together. The pickle juice and pickles are the key. Love this recipe!!!!!

I used 1/2 cup dill pickle juice and that was enough as the dressing when completely mixed was a bit on the soupy side but we all loved this very much and it's sure to be repeated. One can never have too many good potato salad recipes. Made for RS#31.

Five year member this month and this review takes me to 1001 reviews - that is one lot of cooking and baking and what surprises me the most is I am still finding recipes with a wow factor! Yes this one makes for a wow. Picked up fresh dill to make this one - can't wait to do this with dill fresh from my garden. Went with the 1/2 cup pickle juice and just two of the dill pickles. While most of us have a special potato salad - this one is one is a really good one to add for variety - yes it's a five at our house! Thank you for sharing.

This was a fun recipe to try. I was intrigued by the use of the pickle juice on the hot potatoes so had to try the recipe. The pickle juice does add a lot of flavor and is a tip I will use again. I almost hesitate to add stars to my review as I feel my personal preference for southern style potato salad is coloring my opinion of the recipe. While I won't replace my regular potato salad recipe with yours, others who sampled it loved it. I did like the creaminess of the dressing and am glad I tried something new. Served with chopped BBQ sandwiches. Thank you for teaching me something new about potato salad! =)

I loved the flavor of this salad, so tangy and fresh. i've made it twice now and the second time I tried to add a bit less pickle liquid since the first time it was pretty runny. regardless of the consistency, the flavor was amazing and my family loves it! i will make it again.

Made for Recipe Swap #19 Aus/NZ. We had this for dinner today with hamburgers and corn on the cob. Some of us liked it and some of us didn't. All of us agreed that it had too much dill and I even cut it back to 2 T dried dill. The recipe says to used dried dill, but I'm wondering if it was really to be fresh dill. Otherwise, it was very easy to make.

This potato salad is soooo good!! It tastes so much like the potato salad my mom made. I can't remember how she made it, but very similar to this. I am not a big potato salad fan, but this hit the spot. Now that I have this great recipe, I will make it more often. I used yellow onion instead of a red onion because that is what I have on hand. The only ingredient I omitted was the fresh dill. I couldn't find any at the store. Thanks Mom for such a great recipe. This is a keeper!!

Fantastic stuff! I'm not a big potato salad person, but I had some red potatoes I wanted to use up, and it seemed appropriate for July 4, so I tried this one. I used the milk+vinegar version of buttermilk, used scallions rather than red onions, and regular mustard since I didn't have the Dijon on hand. It was really delicious. I'm looking forward to trying the leftovers, now that everything has had more time marinating together. This is definitely a recipe I'll hang on to!

This recipe was super easy and everyone loved it. I used sweet pickle juice instead of dill pickle and I think it really appealed to the kids who don't usually like potato salad. Oh, and the next day it was even better as the sauce to a chance to sink into the potatoes. (I had kept it cold the day before.)
