I have been making this for about 15 years every Thanksgiving. My family says it is not Thanksgiving unless we have them. Real simple to make.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 4 lbs apples
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 13 cup red cinnamon candies
  • 3 -5 drops red food coloring

Directions

  1. Make syrup, with the water, sugar, cinnamon candies and red food coloring.
  2. Pare and core apples (Rome works for me, but can use whatever you prefer).
  3. Slice into 1/2 inch rings.
  4. Cook apple rings covered in syrup until tender.

My mom used to make this recipe when I was a kid. I've been looking for it, and am happy that I have found it here. It is just like I remember! I did cut back on the sugar by 1/2 cup and increased the cinnamon candies to 1/2 cup. I left out the food coloring. It wasn't needed. Thank you so much for bringing back good memories1
