I have been making this for about 15 years every Thanksgiving. My family says it is not Thanksgiving unless we have them. Real simple to make.
- Make syrup, with the water, sugar, cinnamon candies and red food coloring.
- Pare and core apples (Rome works for me, but can use whatever you prefer).
- Slice into 1/2 inch rings.
- Cook apple rings covered in syrup until tender.

My mom used to make this recipe when I was a kid. I've been looking for it, and am happy that I have found it here. It is just like I remember! I did cut back on the sugar by 1/2 cup and increased the cinnamon candies to 1/2 cup. I left out the food coloring. It wasn't needed. Thank you so much for bringing back good memories1
