  1. In a 8 quart stove top covered casserole sauté the bacon until clear.
  2. Add the onions and sliced cabbage to the pot, along with the apples.
  3. Sauté, uncovered, until the cabbage begins to collapse a bit.
  4. Add the remaining ingredients and cover.
  5. Cook over medium heat, until tender, about 1 hour.
