This recipe was given to me by my 93 year old grandma. She still lives in her own home and bakes "when I take a notion", she says.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Mix all ingredients for the base and put into greased 8X8 pan.
  2. Spread jam over base.
  3. Mix the topping together well and spread over jam.
  4. Bake at 300 degrees for 20 minutes.
  5. Cool and cut into squares.

These were really good..You can make them as sweet as you want by the amount of jam you use. I had everything to make them and was delighted with the results. Very quick to put together and many options for the jam filling. Those grandmas always knew best.

I think this old square recipe has been overlooked and that is sad. I made it for years and it was always popular. Even now our grown daughter still requests it. Rather than using jam I sometimes use lemon curd which makes them less sweet. Can't go wrong with this little gem.
