  • Cut 1/2 cup butter into flour with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add buttermilk, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead lightly 3 to 4 times.
  • Roll dough to 3/4 inch thick, cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 425F for 13 to 15 minutes. Brush with melted butter.

  1. These biscuits were easy to make and tasted okay, but didn't rise all that much. It could be because my flour was old, but I don't know for sure.

This is almost identical to a recipe by Sweet B at www.aldenteblog.com - she recommends rolling them about 1" thick, brushing with melted butter both before putting into the oven and immediately after taking them out, and baking at 375 for 10-15 minutes. I haven't made them yet, so I won't rate them, but will be making them soon! I'll be cookbooking this recipe instead of submitting hers, though.
     
  3. I made this to use in recipe #50495 (Caroline's Quick Chicken). Overall, the recipe was very easy to follow but when it came to chow time, I realized that it needed some salt. I'm sure with 1/2 to 1 tsp of salt, it will be great! Since it's so easy to make, I'll make it again tomorrow with that one bit of adjustment.
