Best meatloaf! I'm glad to finally find this recipe! Made many yrs ago. Recently been "winging it" with correct ingredients & incorrect qty of ingredients. Thank you for posting this classic. It's great meatloaf & quick to make. Remember recipe on box suggested Heinz ketchup applied to top after taken out of oven!
My mom made this all the time. This recipe is WAY HEAVY on ketchup and light on onion. I use a half cup of ketchup and a cup of chopped onion.
Best meatloaf recipe EVER! I used to make this for my kids because it had the oats in it. Every time I make everyone asks for the recipe:) Love it! You have to make it with beef/pork and lamb though! Makes all the difference.
This was the original meatloaf recipe on the box. For a topping, mix 1 cup catsup with 1/2 cup honey and pour over top of the meatloaf before baking. I did this at first to get my kids to eat it, but now everyone always wants me to make it this way. The catsup/honey is good over chicken before baking, too. :)
This is phenomenal. I would have never thought to use Salsa or oats in my meatloaf. I love the healthier option of usin oats instead of bread crumbs. I added carrots and kale to my meatloaf. I did need more salt but that's my own fault. I will be making this recipe again.
The Only Meatloaf I will fix! Prepared it now for over 30 years! I also put the ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar topping too! I wait till the meatloaf is about cooked and then pour on top ....popping back in the oven! When I take to a dinner or have it at home.....always everyone loves it! It is delicious! If any left over it makes great sandwiches! ( I add some chopped green peppers about a tablespoon or two of sweet cube pickles and of course the onions! I use Heinz57 about two tablespoons!) This meatloaf is my favorite dish! The Quaker Oats makes all the difference! No bread crumbs for me! The Quaker Oats gives it richness!
We like to try different meat loaves, this one was very basic.Good but not special, not a lot of taste, i used ketchup, perhaps next time i would use the salsa to add a little zing. It did slice very well and will be nice for sandwiches for lunch. Thanks for sharing chia. — Dec 16, 2002UPDATE:: Well next time arrived and I used Salsa this time, what a difference, it was a very tasty meatloaf! and I will definately make it again, looking forward to meatloaf sandwiches tomorrow!!! — Aug 29, 2005
Awesome. I switched ketchup for Bbq sauce ?
It was my mother secret recipe she handed down the old cardboard box cut out to my daughter . the cut out is older than I am LOL It's what I make all the time but now I use half ground turkey because my son in laws gout fell free to and your favorite ingredients mine is bell peppers. I always double the batch so we can have left overs. My daughters friend took some home with him for his lunch one day and his mother called me to ask for the recipe. She said he never packed he meatloaf LOL
I feel bad giving one star reviews, but this looked like dog food. It was pink and mushy and I couldn't even look at it let alone eat it. What a waste of an hour. I followed the recipe exactly. Yuck.
