Quaker Oatmeal Cookies

"Mom used the recipe straight off the box of the Quaker Oatmeal canister. This has always been extra special because of the warm thoughts it brings to me of my Aunt Marshee who worked at the Quaker Oatmeal plant as an executive assistant for most of her professional career."

  2. EAsy Peasy!!! Perfect oatmeal cookie recipe. Oven temp followed as per direction, 350, no higher or lower! Great cookie!

  3. I just tried this and dropped onto non stick sheets. They burnt to a crisp in 8 minutes. Now I'm reducing the heat to see if the next batch turns out.

  4. this is the recipe of my childhood! i'm going to try using lard instead, to make it healthier, but if that doesn't work, i'll stick with the shortening. thank you so much for posting this!

  5. Easy to follow and deliciously nutritious. Love oatmeal raisin.

Tweaks

  1. These were really good! I left out the nuts and added a few more raisins instead. Thanks!!

  2. I just took these cookies out of the oven and they are sooooooo good! I made a few adjustments to get them down to 1 WW point/cookie: used light margarine for the shortening, egg beater instead of egg, no nuts and 3/4 c raisins instead of 1 c. I used a small cookie scoop and got 60 cookies out of 1 batch. YUM!

RECIPE SUBMITTED BY

Thirty some years ago, mom published the first Hawman Family Cookbook to give each of her three daughters a way to carry our favorite recipes from childhood off into the next phase of our lives. I still have the original pages, straight from the typewriter, with traces of whited-out type showing through the corrected lines, and with drips and grease stains highlighting my favorite recipes. With my own daughter now ready to head out on her own, it's time for an updated version complete with her favorites as well. I'm starting this project in January 2010, with a goal of completing the "new expanded edition" in time for Christmas presents in December. I'll be using Recipezaar to collect the recipes, but my hope is to publish my final book complete with the stories and pictures evoked by this memory book of family food. For that, I'm looking forward to countless conversations with my 81-year-old mother, sisters, and children as well as others in my extended family. Let the fun begin! Noelle
