As a third generation Punahou alum (50th reunion this year!) I can testify that this recipe is very authentic. Nothing was ever added to the recipe by the cafeteria cooks -- no nuts, no chocolate chips, no more nothing (as we say in Hawaii!, ha ha). These were made in HUGE pans, and many of us begged the serving ladies to give us have one cut from the edge. That made for a nice chewy bar. Please be aware that your fingers will be kind of "buttery" as you eat these -- and that's part of the fun. I remember when the price went up from fifteen cents each up to twent cents each by the time I graduated. Well worth it, though. I just MUST make these for my granddaughter so she can relive my yummy days at the Punahou cafeteria.

LJ, this is absolutely delicious! Today was a snow day, and I thought of making something warm for my son and brother to go along with some hot cocoa! I came across your recipe and found it interesting because it calls for melted butter, and contains "2" of everything. I cut this recipe in half, increased the vanilla to 1 and 1/2 teaspoon, tossed some Nestle's Swirled Christmas morsels in a little flour, and added it to the batter. Yummy! It is indeed the best blondie that I have ever had-thank you for sharing.
