Here's a recipe I got when I went to Hawaii - tri-tip steak is one of the newer cuts of beef, and is pretty tender.
- 2 1⁄2 lbs tri-tip steak (or other tender steak)
- 1⁄2 cup sea salt
- 1 tablespoon crushed garlic
- 1⁄2 tablespoon cracked peppercorn
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- Combine spices and rub into meat.
- Let sit for 30 minutes.
- Broil or grill the steaks, turning every 4 minutes.
Way too salty. I should have done what the other reviewers had (cut down on the salt big time.)
Followed the recipe, to the letter! Although I feel the recipe is really good the sugar is lost with all the salt, I feel that cutting the salt to 1/4 cup should be sufficient. The Tri-Tip was moist and delicious but the crusty portion of the steak was too salty to enjoy; cut the salt back and I think it will be perfect! Thank you for the recipe! Mr.D
this was very tasty. we served it with plain jasmine rice, sauteed broccoli with garlic and soy sauce on the side. some bites were a bit salty so i'll probably reduce the salt next time. i love sugar on meat!
