This was one of my favorite treats growing up.
- 5 cups puffed wheat cereal
- 1⁄2 cup corn syrup
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1⁄2 cup margarine
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- Boil syrup, margerine, sugar and cocoa together.
- Pour over puffed wheat press into a 9x13 pan and refrigerate.
The first time I made this I added the puffed wheat after just boiling the syrup for a minute or so...the result very grainy puffed wheat. But I gave it another go and boiled the syrup for about 5 minutes and voila, great puffed wheat cake!
I found your recipe years ago, but never rated it. It's really, really good. I'm in a farmer's market and I made these several years ago, a great hit. One lady said my squares were the best ever. I double the recipe and put it into a 10x15 pan. I also add a handful of mini marshmallows.
