This is a Swedish apple cake and is served lukewarm with custard or cream. This recipe comes from a very old cookbook that my Mother bought me for Christmas many years ago. Posting this recipe for ZWT9

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 750 g apples, cored and sliced
  • 60 g butter
  • 50 g dried white breadcrumbs
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Note

  • you can substitute cinnamon for 50gr chopped almonds (or use both if preferred)


  1. Butter and ovenproof dish and arrange in it the layers of apples, breadcrumbs, thin flakes of butter, sugar and either the cinnamon or chopped almonds, finishing with a layer of breadcrumbs.
  2. Bake at 180c, for about 30 minutes or until the apples are tender.
  3. Serve warm with cream or custard.
