I really hate giving bad reviews but this meal was not liked very much by myself or my family. I made it expecting what was in the picture and wound up with some kind of soupy mush of half-boiled/half-mashed potatoes, kielbasa and chopped vegetables. I followed the instructions up until I realized that the water was not going to evaporate. After that, I removed the lid and let it cook for the rest of the time (9 minutes), stirring occasionally to cook all of the potatoes. I wound up ladling out some of the soupy stuff so it would evaporate and I ended up with potatoes that turned (almost) to mush. We also found it pretty bland and we all doused it with ketchup to eat it. I really wish I would have taken a picture of the look that was exchanged between my son and husband when I sat the plates in front of them. The first thing out of my husband's mouth was, "That doesn't look like the picture on the recipe card." And he is completely right. Many people try a recipe based on the picture. I really wish the picture that is posted as the main photo would be taken to illustrate a recipe that isn't altered so much that it winds up looking nothing like the way it is supposed to turn out. Overall, the picture difference was bad but I would have had the same review of this recipe if the picture would have matched whatever I wound up with. I will definitely NOT be making this again. I will also post a picture of what mine looked like since I've seen quite a few reviews describing something similar to what I had.
I typically cut this recipe in half and there is plenty to go around. We also use grated cheddar cheese rather than american cheese. The whole family enjoys this meal. I love that it fills everyone up and is affordable to make.
Love it.... very simple to make and my husband gobbles it up. I keep the skins on the potatoes and leave the cheese off for my DH and add cheddar to mine
Not too bad, the flavor was good. But I think next time, I'll brown the keilbasa and potatoes first so they get that nice browning. I also added chicken broth instead of water, as another reviewer suggested. I think I may have added too much liquid, though. I'll try reducing to 1 cup of liquid next time.
This was amazingly tasty for how easy it is to make! I definitely found a new staple! YUM
Hearty, flavorful, comfort food for Northern Michigan winters. Kids love this.
This was pretty good. I sauted my veggies until they were almost done before I added the liquid. I added a little beef bouillon to my water for extra flavor.
This is fantastic! I used 1 cup of beef broth instead of water and it came out so savory. The whole family loved it. Definitely a keeper.
This is a great-tasting meal that comes together easily meal! As mentioned in the description, it is very filling, as well. Next time, I think I would add in a bit more of the onion and bell pepper, as we prefer a bit higher of a veggie to potato ratio. :) I also would probably add in some garlic next time, too... because I love garlic and it goes in everything. :P Will definitely add this to my recipe box!
Making this now and it smells so good! I skipped the salt and added cajun seasoning along with only 1/3 cup water and I cooked it in a skillet. I've tasted it many times and its delicious!
