Potato Cakes (Michael Smith)

"I saw him make this recipe on his show Chef at Home (Food Network Canada). I use a non stick frying pan for this, so I'm able to fry with minimal fat. In this case I used vegetable oil instead of the bacon fat. Prep time does not include cooling time."

  1. I totally forgot about making these until last night. Comfort food heaven.

  2. Delicious! I had to cook mine for a bit longer than specified in the recipe to get them brown, but they are absolutely delicious! Can't wait to have the ones leftover for breakfast tomorrow morning! Thanks for sharing!

  3. We loved these so much! I made them to go along with sausage, peppers and onions on the side. What a great breakie!

  4. 5 star rating for sure! We absolutely loved these cake; I just prosciutto instead of bacon because I was using prosciutto in some other dish at the same meail. It is great that you are able to make these well in advance and then fry them on the pan just before serving. I only used 1 tsp oil in a non stick skillet and that was fine. I will for sure be making these again!

  5. OMG!!! This is the king/queen of potato pancakes!!! I have had them with the onions and cheese, but when you add the bacon and fry them in the bacon fat, WOW!!!! These are so full of flavor, you can't go wrong. I did use Egg Beaters for the egg and scaled it down for one serving, but otherwise made as written!!! Thanks for sharing this recipe. Made for Photo Tag Game!
