Very traditional - I wonder if the name is from this origianlly being 'possum' stew, as the ingredients are pretty standard for southern mountain stew with whatever 'varmint' was caught that night...

This was easy enough to make but I thought it was a little bland. I can really see adding 1 or 2 chipotle chilies and sauce to kick it up more with a smoky flavor. Thanks for posting. Made for *Zaar Chef Alphabet Soup 2009* game

Grandma knows BEST! This is soo yummy for being sooo dang easy.. I didn't think ahead and defrost my turkey hamburger meat, so I just used frozen meatballs from Costco, nuked em' in the microwave for 5- 10 mins. and then doubled the recipe (only using 1 can of green chilies).. I also used diced tomatoes instead of stewed cause that is what I had on hand. PERFECT with corn bread! Thanks for a keeper.. :)

This was really good and easy too.I used a can of plain pinto beans and just added a little chili powder to the mix. Good stuff. Served with warm corn tortillas. Thanks for posting.
