  • Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat, then add onion & garlic & saute until golden brown.
  • Add red pepper flakes, tomato sauce, hot water, parsley, salt, pepper & paprika & bring to a boil. Reduce heat & simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Gently stir in fava beans, then remove from heat & let stand several minutes to allow flavors to meld before serving.

  1. I thought this recipe was very tasty. I of course added 1 more glove of garlic as we love garlic in our household. I think next time I might try adding a can of diced tomatoes along with the tomato sauce and a tablespoon of sugar to have a sweet a savory dish. Thank you for the recipe.
     
  2. A nice spicy side. Could not get canned favas and fresh are out of season, so used canned baby lima beans instead. Enjoyed all the caramelized onions mixed with the tomato sauce and smoked paprika. Did cup the red pepper back for DH’s sake used 1/4 teaspoon which gave it a nice little tang. Think the full tablespoon would have over powered the beans. Thanks for the post.
     
  3. First time making fava beans. Mine were frozen. I used home grown habanero flakes so just a pinch went in, not a tablespoon. My choice of paprika was smoked. I also used fresh tomatoes that I diced. Loved the onion texture against the bean texture. Thanks
