I love walking into the house after a long day at work and smelling a pork stew bubbling away in the crock. The meat was very tender and the stew itself was so flavorful. The dumplings were interesting and tasty. My boyfriend really liked them. The only change that I made to the whole recipe is instead of cutting the pork up, I just cooked the roast whole. Thanks for a great recipe.
This was just a very good basic crock pot recipe. I browned the pork first and deglazed the skillet into the crock pot. I would not serve this dish to company. I will not make this dish again. The dumpling were a welcome addition and I may use them again on something else. Jim in So. Calif.
My kids usually don't like a stew but the cornmeal dumplings made this great. The couldn't get enough of the stew and loved the dumplings.
Just making a comment so I will know not to make this again. Sorry, but we could not eat this. The only change I made was to add 2 hot peppers. But glad others enjoyed your recipe. We all have different taste.
Great! Dumplings were tasty and fully cooked (unlike a lot of dumpling recipes I find). Only thing I would change next time would be to briefly sauté the carrots and potatoes next time, to add a little more flavour. We seasoned this with Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning to great effect.
The recipe fairy....what a great meal...we thought we died and went to heaven. Like Kari in Denver, I used a whole 2-3 lb roast, I also added about 1/2 cup diced onion. I didn't have tomatoes, so I used chunky tomato sauce. The gravy was so thick, I added about 2 additional cups of water during cooking time. This is another keeper. Thanks.
