I decided to add the green pepper and onion, for flavor. The meatballs completely disintegrated. Although the flavor was ok, it was kind of bland. I turned the meatballs over for the last 7 minutes of cooking, because some of the rice looked raw. It did finally cook ok.

These looked odd, but were really very good. I added my usual seasonings to the ground beef (worchester, steak seasoning, garlic salt, pepper) and cooked it uncovered. It cooked faster, but the meat and rice tended to dry out on the top, so I had to flip them every 15 minutes. They were much better than I expected them to be, especially for something so simple and so cheap. Which I mean in the best of all possible ways. :) Thank you for sharing!

I am so glad I found this recipe. My Grandmother made these for us when we were growing up and we loved them. Thank you for posting your recipe so I can finally make them for my daughter. I can't wait for her to come home. By the way they turned out just like my grandmothers.

This was such a great recipe. I'm always looking for ground beef recipes and had heard of porcupines but never made them. I didn't add the green pepper or onion, but did add some additional spices for flavor and a small amount of bread crumbs to help keep the meatballs together. This will be in our permanent menu rotation from now on. Thank you!

Turned out very well! Easy to make, I served over rice and liked a lot. Tasted just like my grandma's homemade spaghetti sauce. I subbed ground turkey for the ground beef to make the recipe healthier, and you couldn't tell at all.

I've been making a very similar recipe for years, except mine calls for a beaten egg in the meatball mixture. After thawing out the ground beef I discovered that I was out of eggs! I found your recipe and even though I was afraid that the meatballs wouldn't hold their shape, they turned out very nicely. As in my recipe I did add 1 tablespoon of worchestershire sauce to the tomato soup mixture. My DD loves this dish and never even realized it was a different recipe! Thanks longhornmel for a saving the day.

Great meatballs that we used as an appetizer. This would also be great served over rice or noodles. Thanks for sharing, Longhornmel. I will be making these again.

This recipe was a childhood favorite. My mother never used green pepper tho, and she always added a pinch of thyme. A real kid-pleaser in our house!
