  1. In a large skillet sauté mushrooms and onions in ½ stick of butter until tender.
  2. Add sauerkraut, sausage, white wine, salt and pepper, mix well cover and cook over medium low heat for about 1 hour.
  3. Add cooked spiral noodles and ½ stick butter, stir until butter has melted, season to taste and serve.

Wonderful rich tasting comfort food! This is going to be a favorite for me. I did not add the mushrooms, used rotini pasta and Eckrich smoked sausage. The sauerkraut has a sweet sour flavor that is so good and caramalizes a bit as it cooks. To get a good pierogi idea I would serve this with mashed potatoes next time. Very yummy, a must try recipe! WOW was this good! I love finding recipes that are economical AND delicious! My husband LOVED this. I inhaled the little bit of leftovers a few days later, and I almost think it tasted better after sitting for a bit.

I just read about Papa D's passing and want to express my sympathy to his family. I had all of the ingredients for this recipe, eliminated mushrooms, DH is a mushroom hater and substituted smoked turkey sausage for the kielbasa(too much garlic for me), it was an easy delicious recipe and will go into my "zaar stars" cookbook.
