  • 2 lbs smoked pork shanks
  • 1 quart water
  • 1 onion, well browned
  • 1 quart sauerkraut juice
  • 14 cup sugar
  • 14 cup cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 34 cup milk

directions

  • Cook meat in water until well done.
  • Add onion, sauerkraut juice and sugar.
  • Beat egg, add flour, milk and cream.
  • Add to soup and bring to a boil.
  • Serve with potato dumplings.
