A traditional polish side dish.
- 1⁄2 lb bacon, diced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup onion, sliced
- 3 garlic cloves, chopped
- 8 cups cabbage, sliced
- 1 lb bow tie pasta, cooked
- salt and pepper
- In a large deep skillet frie the bacon and onions with the butter and garlic.
- Add the cabbage, and continue to saute covered until the cabbage is cooked through. You may need to add some water to the skillet to help the cabbage cook through without browning too much.
- Add the cooked bow tie pasta and season with salt and pepper. Continue to cook until warmed through.
This is excellent. I added a tsp. of lemon juice to the butter as I was cooking the bacon & onions and 2 packets of 1 gram splenda. It is also a quick recipe and an ideal "starter" recipe to add any more additions: vegetables, of your choice.
OMG! Thank you sooo much for this recipe! I made it today for dinner and it was exactly how i remembered it growing up!!!!
Ok, can everyone say C-O-M-F-O-R-T F-O-O-D? This was so good. I LOVE cabbage and pasta, just never thought to cook them together. And I come from an area of the US with a large Polish population too! I actually saved some of the leftovers and put them in the way back of the fridge so my DH wouldn't find them. SHHHHHHHHH don't tell. Thanks for posting SLColman. Sue
