Directions

  1. Mix and sift dry ingredients.
  2. Add milk gradually with beaten egg yolks.
  3. Add melted shortening.
  4. Cut and fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
  5. Grease hot waffle iron. Brown. Serve and Enjoy!

I love waffles and really enjoyed these the other morning!! They had a great flavor, texture and worked well in the waffle iron. I made these as written but next time wouldn't bother with separating the whites out and then whipping them and folding them into the batter, as I don't really notice a difference(except more work & dishes) in these waffles compared to ones just adding the whole egg and mixing. Thanks for sharing your recipe. Made for Spring PAC 2014.

I just recieved a waffle iron for christmas, I'm not a fancy breakfast person, and so this is the first recipe I've tried, it turned out beautiful, I quickly melted some frozen store bought berries in a saucepan, and added a bit of sugar to them to make a syrup for the waffles, my whole family enjoyed! Thank you for sharing your recipe.
