Pizza Lunchable - OAMC

"This recipe is in response to my son's desperate pleas for those lunchables that are unhealthy, expensive, and full of ingredients I can't pronounce...lol. Since I refuse to buy them, I came up with this idea instead to compromise with him."

directions

 • Roll out pizza dough and bake according to directions on the canister.
 • Put 1/4 cup of cheese in 12 snack size ziploc bags.
 • Put 1/4 cup of sauce in 12 snack size bags.
 • When the pizza crust is done cut into 12 squares. (The package says that 1/6 of a package is a serving which is where I am coming up with the serving sizes).
 • Place two squares in each quart size ziploc.
 • Add one cheese packet and one sauce packet in the package with the crust.
 • Freeze.
 • To eat, have your child put one package in their lunch box and by lunchtime it will the thawed and ready to eat!

 1. This was a big hit with my 1st and 5th grade kids. I have made lunchable kits before, but not pizza. Thanks for the idea. We added pepperoni, as my kids love that for a snack. I was concerned about a bag of sauce for DS, the first grader. DD suggested mixing the pepperoni, cheese and sauce together in a bag for for her little brother to scoop out with a spoon. Good idea, but she came up with an even better one, so we purchased a travel size squeeze bottle from the health and beauty section (for holding shampoo, etc) and put the pizza sauce in that. But we always have pizza sauce on hand, in the pantry or half a jar in the fridge, so I didn't need to freeze that with the kit. Being able to squeeze out the sauce was easier for my little one in particular. Thanks for a great alternative to PBJ's.

 2. Wow - my kids liked these but all those bags!!! Come on people, we are trying to reduce plastic in the world. Please don't send out great recipes and ideas that include many pieces of plastic - that is just irresponsible.

 3. Saw this in a thread about school lunches, so decided to try it. I made my own whole wheat crust and spaghetti sauce. The 9th grader and 4th grader both gave it a 4, but I'm giving it a 5 bcz it's easy, fun and the whole wheat probably influenced them a bit, although they are used to me making everything in whole wheat! LOL Will save and use regularly.

 4. I was thinking the exact same thing. However this could easily be adapted to more green products, including reusable lunch bags as well as glass or other reusable containers.

 5. I used homemade pizza dough and baked for 8 minutes at 400 degrees. This will also make a partially cooked pizza crust that could be broiled with toppings on for an easy lunch/dinner.

I'm a SAHM with four kids. One who is allergic to dairy and soy, another who is a pescatarian, one a voracious carnivore who recently told me she likes meat that moo's when it's served to her, and another who is transitioning from vegetarian to vegan. With all these issues in our home with food and cooking I would die without this site!

I like to OAMC and finding new ways to cut down my budget. I also like scrapbooking, reading, and cooking new things. While I enjoy cooking I just don't have tons of time in the kitchen to make complicated dishes, so I really like easy, fast, cheap, and healthy meals. I am under the delusion that there is a perfect cookbook out there somewhere, but am probably mistaken ;) Finding the perfect cookbook is probably like finding the perfect purse, it'll never happen but I keep trying!
