Finally this recipie has surfaced!!! My grandmother's grandmother who came from Naples, made this on easter according to her and she has been looking for a recipie that was close to her grandmothers and this is it! We have tried others, but this is almost exact to what she put in it says my grandmother. A bit time consuming and costly, but totally worth it!
This is the second Easter that I'm using this recipe. I've been stalking my local Italian market for the basket cheese and it finally came in! There is really nothing that needs to be tweaked on this recipe but I've decided to add a little sopressata this year too. Can't wait until next Saturday to eat some!
This has been a tradition in our family since my great grandparents came from Italy. It is our most loved pie, and we make it for every occasion we can! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you for this recipe! I have been looking for pizza gain & no one ever knows what I am talking about! My aunt used to make hers in round springform pans & slice it up like pie. I just found your recipe & cannot wait to try it next year at easter! Maybe I will make a smaller size just to try out! But I also remember I think having it on christmas too? maybe i'm wrong, but thank you for bringing back a memory to me! Ps, it is also good the next day sliced & fried in butter in a frying-pan. Doesn't get runny that way.
I had been wanting to make this recipe for a very long time. The only thing I did was cut the recipe in half. It was delicious! The family loved it at Easter. Thank you for a new holiday tradition!
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! My ex's mother from Italy made this and I have been looking for the recipe. Everyone raved about this.
This a VERY authentic recipe ! My grandmothers in fact. Straight from Naples... I have been making this one on Good Friday with my aunt since I was 6 years old. Don't forget.. do not enjoy until Saturday after 12 noon. Happy Easter
This is amazingly close to my mother-in-law's family recipe!! I have to say, the family recipe I use calls for Sopressata and it is baked in more of a traditional pie dough flavored with orange rind / juice. I really enjoyed reading your story about the origins of this and think from now on, I'll be asking my Priest to bless our family's. Thank you and keep this tradition going.
Oh My Stars! I am absolutely thrilled with this recipe! My Na Na was from Naples and she didn't have a recipe. Her Easter Pizza was awesome and we always eagerly waited for Easter Sunday to devour her
creation! Although she didn't include a lot of your recipe's ingredients, our family LOVED it! Thank you for sharing your recipe that has inspired me to experiment and continue our family tradition with a wonderful twist! I make it throughout the year because my family loves it and it is such a "comfort-food" for me!
