Pinwheel Italian Calzones

"From allrecipes.com: "Once you try these mini calzones, you may never go back to fixing the large ones again! These calzones come together in a snap, and are a great way to sneak a few veggies into your kid's diet. The best part is they are small so it makes it easy for little hands to pick up and eat. Plus they taste like pizza and there's even a dipping sauce!" Reviewers commented that sauteing the vegetables made everything even tastier, and one reviewer thought that substituting refrigerated pizza dough for the crescent dough would be an even better bet. Either way, these calzones sound great!"

directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, stir together the ricotta cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, green pepper and onion. Set aside.
  • Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate into 4 rectangles. Press the remaining perforations together to seal. Spread the filling evenly onto the rectangles. Roll up the filling inside the dough starting at the short side. Slice each finished roll into four slices, and place cut side down onto a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until lightly browned. While the pinwheels are baking, warm the pizza sauce. Serve the pinwheels with pizza sauce in small cups for dipping.

  1. Easy and tasted great!! They didn't last long, but that's a good thing. I will be making these again...thanks for posting!

  2. These are so good! I had to cut out the mushrooms on account of picky eaters (boyfriend) but they were still amazing, the first time I made them one of boyfriend's buddies grabbed his keys and asked what I needed to make another batch before the first one was even gone! These are now requested on almost weekly basis. Thank you!

  3. I added a mixture of sauteed onions w/ spinach before rolling into the logs only because I had some leftover and it really went well on there! And I couldn't tell ya if they hold-up for reheating...because there were NO leftovers!

  4. These were delicious! I have made them for dinner a few times and everyone in my family loves them. I wasn't sure how much italian seasoning to add so I just did 1/2 tsp. and it turned out fine. Thanks for posting this!

  5. This was wonderful. I added some basil and oregano to the mixture. I did use the abount of salt called for and I did not find it salty at all. Pillsbury now sells crescent dough sheets, without the perforations, and that made this recipe even easier. I found the cooking time to be off. It took 25 minutes for these to cook through and brown, and my oven runs pretty accurately. This is the only time something has taken twice the time posted in a recipe. Everyone loved these and I will be making them again for a party I am throwing in March. Thanks juniperwoman!

I love to cook! I also love to take complicated recipes and make them simpler. Who wouldn't like to have fewer pans to wash?
