  • Cut the shortening into 2 cups of flour and salt, until you have small pieces or beads.
  • Make a paste from the remaining 1/4 cup of flour and 1/3 cup of water by mixing it with a fork in a separate larger cup.
  • Work this paste into the dough, until thoroughly mixed. Sprinkle with flour and roll out on pastry board.
