  • In large saucepan, combine sugar, butter, syrup and salt.
  • Cook over medium heat until all sugar is dissolved.
  • Gradually add milk to mixture and mix well.
  • Continue to cook until candy thermometer reaches 248°F, or firm ball stage.
  • Remove mixture from heat and stir in vanilla.
  • Fold in pecans.
  • Drop by tablespoonfuls onto a greased sheet, or sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Chill drops till firm.
  • Loosen from paper.
  • Melt the chocolate and shortening together in the microwave or in a double boiler.
  • Drizzle the chocolate mixture over each pecan cluster.
  • Allow to cool completely.

  1. The recipe I have from TOH calls for 1 cup of semisweet mixed with 1 cup of milk chocolate chips, so that's how I made them. They were really good. One caveat -- kept in the fridge they were too hard to eat, but if left out they stuck to the plate!

  3. I just made these for the weekend and they were delicous and they got all eaten up! I had this recipe marked from a Tast of Home Cooking School Cookbook and finally got around to making them. Glad I did!
