think this recipe must have been from 60's/70's. We ate this all the time as children. My mother still eats eat- but I don't. She always served it on a big leaf of green lettuce, topped it with miracle whip instead of mayo. it was on our dinner table at least once a week as children

I grew up on this salad! My husband use to think I was nuts every time I made it, until I finally got him to try it. Now he loves it as much as I do!

I had a sudden craving for these tonight. My grandmother made them regularly when I was a kid, and sometimes, I just need pear salad. Then I thought, 'I wonder if it's on Zaar.' And here it is! These are so, so good.

What a blast from the past but a DELICIOUS one!!! I was given a huge jar of preserved pear halves and have made this salad several times now and the last time I cut-up the pears and tossed with the grated cheese, spinach leaves, chopped green onions, and s/p. Added a bit of pear juice to the mayo for a great dressing. (I think you could come-up w/ lots of ideas from these 3 ingredients.) I really love this salad as written-no mistake about it!!! Thank you again, Laurel, for a wonderful recipe!

I was going to post this till I saw you already had. For a pretty presentation, serve on an open leaf of lettuce.

Dang! I didn't even realize the "recipe" was on 'Zaar! Though I never ate it home growing up it was in the regular rotation in the school cafeteria from grade school through high school. I loved it then, and I love it now. I've suddenly got a craving now as I haven't done this in quite some time, and I actually do have a can of pears in the pantry. Thanks for posting and the memories it brings back.

This made an interesting side dish. I was skeptical but pleasantly surprised. You would never know that the "white stuff" is mayo. Easy and fun to make!

I agree with LizzieP, I didn't know other people ate this. I have loved it for years. That reminds me that I need to make it soon. Thanks for reminding me!

This is one of those salads I remember from when I was a kid-no one made salads then the way they do now, with a lot of super ingredients. Some times I just crave this. So yummy!

My Grandmother and mother both made a salad like this except they added a little jam to the mayonnaise, adds great color and taste. My family loves this salad too! very easy and a great addition to a meal.

This could be an acquired taste, but I, too, grew up eating and loving this! The only thing I do differently, is to make a sauce with the mayo and a little of the pear juice. You can add a little sugar or sweetener to the sauce, if you think it needs it. And then, I tend to go a little heavy with the cheese! Try this, it's tasty!

Yay! someone else's family eats this too. I loved this as a kid, and I still do. My grandmother made it too. One of those home foods that sounds weird to people who have never tried it, but it is delish!
