I found this recipe in the paper the other day and tried it. It's a different way to make rice crispy treats from the way it is usually made with marshmallows. It should be eaten as soon as possible because it will start to go stale overnight. Do not substitute margarine for real butter. The margarine has too much moisture.
- Heat on high one stick real butter adding the one cup sugar and the light corn syrup. Stir and heat to boil until thoroughly mixed. Add peanut butter and stir until melted. Add 7 to 9 cups crispy rice cereal. Press in 9 x 13-inch pan.
Almost follow the recipe to the T, but I like to use half regular krispies and half cocoa krispies, they're a hit with the whole crowd
Very yummy! One thing I'll do differently next time is not press them down into the pan at all... it made them quited dense and hard to cut. As someone else posted a photo with chocolate, we spread a thin layer of melted semi-sweet chocolate chips on top... divine! Thanks!
These tasted yummy, thanks for posting the recipe! It's true, the next day they are too hard to bite into but microwave for a few seconds and they are fine. We made egg shapes and dipped them in "Easy Homemade Peanut Butter or Chocolate Magic Shell Topping" after freezing them. It was fun for Easter & my creative husbands idea!
