recipe that has been in my family for over 50 years but no idea where it came from. if the chocolate does not melt i return to oven for 1-2 minutes.
- beat butter and peanut butter for 30 seconds. add sugars and beat until fluffy. add remaining ingredients, except chocolate chips, in order given. spread into 9 x 13 pan. bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. sprinkle with chocolate chips and let stand for 5 minutes. spread chocolate and cool. prepare icing by beating ingredients together for a drizzling consistency. drizzle over chocolate layer and cut into bars.
I saw Chef*Lee's review and knew I had to make these because my husband is a peanut butter freak. He loved them! I added extra peanut butter, mixed in 1/2 c. peanut butter chips, and accidently mixed the chocolate chips in the batter. I just spread the remainder of the bag (4 oz.)on top and drizzled it with glaze. We enjoyed the extra chocolate & peanut butter and would make it the same way again. Thanks!
I have made these at Christmas for 35+ years. Terrific! They are a family favorite! I got the recipe from a McCalls cook book. I have found that if you make the peanut butter glaze as written, it never really hardens. If you heat the glaze and use a little less milk, it works perfectly.
Yummy chocolate peanut-buttery goodness!! These taste great with the oats and the chips in the bars then the layer of chocolate and creamy peanut frosting glaze on top!!! Very moist and goeey!!! Thanks for the recipe!!!
