This sounds a bit odd but, trust me, it is wonderful! You can use other types of pickles if you wish. I've heard of people who use Kosher dills. Personally, I find the sweet-tart flavor of sweet gerkins blend beautifully with the peanut butter. This recipe can easily be multiplied.
- 2 slice bread, your favorite
- 29.58-44.37 ml peanut butter
- 4-5 sweet gherkins, sliced lengthwise
- Spread peanut butter on both slices of bread.
- Lay pickles on one slice of bread.
- Cover with other slice of bread.
I just tried this sandwich for the first time, love it! We tried Shoppers Food Warehouse plain white bread, Skippy natural creamy peanut butter and both Clausen Kosher dill slices and someones bread and butter pickles, I can't remember whose. I'm looking for a pickle right in the middle, b&b was too subtle, dill a smidge too strong. What's right in the middle anybody? Fantastic sandwich!
I think I posted this same recipe but I called for pickle chips. I like sweet pickles. The bread and butter types, I think, are the best. This is one of my favorite sandwiches but the pickles are important. If you get an inferior pickle then it's just no good.
Love love love this sandwich! Yes, it seems weird, but there is something about the sweetness and crunch of the pickle, combined with the creaminess of the peanut butter that makes it just awesome. I prefer creamy peanut butter, and I only used one slice of bread, which I toast. In the future I plan to experiment with different types of peanut butters and pickles - dill sounds like it would be interesting.
