I liked this recipe. I used margarine instead of shortening but otherwise same as the recipe. 45 minutes was a wee bit too long to bake in my oven. I will shave a few minutes off next time. Family loved it.

Normally I love Paula Deen recipes, but this one I will not make again. It did not rise at all. I carefully measured everything and did exactly as she listed. It's so-so, not very moist and less than an inch thick. I drowned it in carmel frosting, so that helped, but I will keep trying other recipes until I find a better applesauce cake recipe. Sorry Paula, normally I love your cooking. Just not really happy with this recipe.

I just made this cake. It was done in 30 minutes, not 45. Also, it's on the dry side--needs a good frosting, probably cream cheese. I don't understand how a recipe like this gets 5 stars. Do people really not know good food?

Perfectly Paula Deen Yummy! I too, used real butter...Sometimes you just have to not worry, and just enjoy a really good treat!
