    Everyone can make a pie crust with this recipe. I found this in an Amish cookbook. Try it, homemade is always better.

    Ingredients:

    • 1 1/2 cups flour
    • 3 tablespoons flour
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 3 tablespoons cold milk

    Directions:

      Place the flour, sugar, and salt in the pie pan and mix with your fingers until blended.
    2. 2
      In a measuring cup, combine the oil and milk and beat with a fork until creamy.
    3. 3
      Pour all at once over flour mixture.
    4. 4
      Mix with a fork until the flour mixture is completely moistened.
    5. 5
      Pat the dough with your fingers, first up the sides of the plate, then across the bottom.

      Flute the edges.

      Shell is now ready to be filled.

      If you are preparing a shell to fill later, or your recipe requires a prebaked crust, preheat the oven to 425.

      Prick the pastry with a fork and bake 15 minute.

      This is a great way to make a good pie crust quickly and cheaply. However, the original recipe from the Joy of Cooking does not use sugar nor the extra 3 Tbsp. flour. All you have to do is blend the same quantities of flour and salt in a bowl, stir the oil and milk quickly in a cup, and then add it to the flour mixture and mix with a fork. I do it right in the pan, then work it up the sides of the pie pan with my fingers. Kids love to do this! If you have some left over (and you might) just work the extra into the crumb topping you could use to top the apples or other fruit you are using. It makes a nice crunchy top. No kidding, a really good pie can be made with this recipe without resorting to butter, pastry blender, rolling pin, etc. Enjoy!

      I absolutely hate making and rolling out pie crust which is unfortunate since I love pie. On the upside of that, it kept me from frequently gorging myself on pie. This turned out so well that I've made it twice in the last week, once for sour cream peach pie and once for dutch apple pie. I unfortunately foresee a large weight gain in my future...thank you? ;)

      This was so easy and fast, what a great recipe when you just want to get something in the oven fast. I've never been good at making pie crust but when DH wanted Pecan Pie Sensational Southern Pecan Pie for Christmas and this came to my rescue - I'll be using it a lot.
