This turned out very flavorful for us, with the addition of 2 extra slices bacon (niman ranch applewood smoked), 2 extra cloves garlic, 1 14 ounce can diced tomatoes (we used crushed for the 28 ounce can in the recipe), 1/2 t dried oregano, salt, and pepper. I also used about 2/3 an onion, and it was still "onion-y". I also trimmed the fat on the bacon, after cooking it fully and cooked the rest in a separate pan to make it less fattening.
We truly enjoyed this dish! My DH loved the kick the red pepper flakes gave it! And anything with bacon is great with me! Will definitely make this again! Made for ZWT4.
A very easy and quick pasta dish to make but sorry to say for us it was not a favorite. The smokey flavor of the bacon did not seem to blend well with the tomatoes. I think some fresh herbs would be wonderful in the sauce and round out the flavor a bit better.
This was easy and tastey. I believe it does needs more seasoning like Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Used fire roasted tomatoes and applewood smoked bacon. Also added smoked paprika to add more flavor.
I had to make this with low-sodium bacon, which wasn't particularly thick-cut but was still fine (also use no-salt-added tomatoes. I doubled the amount of crushed red pepper flakes. My palate is used to low-salt content, so for me it was great this way. It's the red pepper flakes I think which really make this special.
This is really good! I used linguine and pepper bacon which added a little more zip. I was afraid DH wouln't like it because he likes to 'see' his meat, but he loved it. Simple and tasty. Thanks Engrossed, this will be repeated often.
I loved this quick pasta dish! It is so easy to make after a long day at work. In the time it takes to have the pasta cooked your sauce will be done. I doubled the amount of crushed pepper(personal taste) and used the suggested garlic. This is almost as easy as opening a jar of sauce and it tastes so much better. You won't be disappointed if you make this recipe!
