This was great! I always loved Panera's Black Bean Soup. I think this may even be better! I didn't have any lemon so I used a little key lime juice in its place. It was still wonderful! I will make this recipe often!

I really enjoyed this. I pureed the whole thing because for some reason my kids eat any bean but black?!?! :-) My oldest thought it tasted like taco soup. Had this with cheese quesadillas for a nice light, but filling dinner.

Panera's black bean soup in my favorite, so I was a bit skeptical, but this was great! It was a lot like Panera's. The only changes I would make next time to make it even closer to Panera's would be to add a bit more cumin and less celery, maybe one rib instead of 2. I could smell and taste the celery and I cannot with Panera's soup. It did taste great just the way it is though! Will be making often! Edited to say that I made this again with a little less celery and a little more cumin and it was even more like Panera's!

This soup was great! It definitely hit the spot. I did add 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper because I like spice in my black bean soup. But I'm sure it would have been good without it as well.

This was delicious! I'm not too fond of onions so I only used half, and added a little cayenne and chili powder at the suggestion of another reviewer. This soup is easy, tasty and healthy!

I love this soup. Thank you Thank you Thank you for sharing it. I've made it a hundred times and I share it with everyone at work. Sometimes I buy a roasted chicken from the grocery store and put it in the soup. Fabulous.

Yummy! I used dried black beans in this recipe instead of canned and it turned out great! I added less water in the veggies to account for the amount of water that the beans were soaking in. Thanks for posting!

This was great! Tripled the recipe, added some cayenne pepper and bay leaf according to some suggestions made in the reviews, and I sauteed the veggies before adding everything else. Omitted the salt - glad I did, too because this was salty enough as it was! Wonderful recipe! We will make it again!

I have made this soup at least a dozen times now, and the whole family loves it! It is so easy to modify according to what you have on hand. Sometimes I will add diced chicken, this summer when eggplant was abounding I would roast that and blend some of that in! One of the reasons I joined recipezaar.

This soup is great. Really easy to make, especially w/ an immersion blender. I added an extra clove of garlic, half of the bouillon and no extra salt. It is really tasty and even better than Panera, which I love!

This was very good! I cut down the salt & cumin by half (personal preference). DH was able to add tobasco to his serving, so everyone was happy. I also snuck in some pureed veggies (pumpkin & yellow squash) into the blender. No one noticed! Thanks for a great recipe.

We make this with red kidney beans or borlotti beans, as black beans are not readily available here, and we love it

i still like panera's version a little more...but...with a little more tweaking, this will become my replacement - i did use 1 1/2 cups chicken broth instead of the bullion and boiling water, and 3 cans of black beans, and left only 1 undrained to try to decrease the nasty after effects, then spiced it up a bit with some asian chili paste i use for everything...yummm
