Owl's Eyes

"Check these out before you say GROSS!! They're not what you think....Honest. I had these a while back at my stamp club, courtesy of another stamper. They are so popular around here right now that you can't find the pretzel rings or Hugs just anywhere. Hope you'll try them too! They're so simple, I'm kinda ashamed to call it a recipe......... 1. Well, after reading the ingredients I went straight to the store and bought them. I read the reviews and my favorite candy bar is the take 5 so as a few of the readers said, I used the peanut butter pretzels from Snyder. I also prefer dark chocolate so I used dark chocolate kisses and dark chocolate m&m's and these were to die for. They taste so much like take 5's. They were so easy to make and absolutely delicious. Mine, however, did not look like eyes, but I dont care, they were awesome!!! I would give it 10 stars but, well....they dont have 10

  2. We make these at Christmas with the candy cane flavored kisses, red and green M&Ms, and the square "snap" pretzels. The mint, chocolate, and salty pretzel are a great combination. Thanks for posting!

  3. These were so cute and easy. Apparently I missed the boat on these because when I took them to our family picnic my cousins already knew all about them. They went really fast and were quick to make, which was good because I was having an 'off day' in the cooking department. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Excellent and oh, so easy. I used hershey's kisses and almond m&m's. Yummy!

Tweaks

  1. I actually changed every single ingredient, but 5 stars for the idea anyway. Delicious. I used Reese's pieces instead of M&M's, dark chocolate kisses instead of hugs just because they sounded better to me at the time, and I couldn't find round pretzels so I used peanuts butter pretzel sandwiches by Snyder's of Hanover (basically two little round pretzels with the checker board pattern within the circle, stuck together with a little bit of peanut butter). Worked great except when I went to put them in the fridge, I tipped the tray a little and they kind of melted into each other and otherwise got a little deformed when they slid across, so maybe I needed to let them cool a little more before putting them in the fridge or didn't need to let the chocolate melt so long. But I can still see where the name came from, especially if I had used the hugs (white chocolate = whites of the eyes). With the changes, mine came out tasting almost exactly like a HERSHEY'S Take 5 candy bar which I think actually made me happier than they would have without the peanut butter. Thanks a bunch!

Hey there! I am the wife of my dh, Steve, to whom I've been married a very short 12yrs. I am also the SAHM of three boys (11yo and 4yo at home, 23yo on his own). My middle insists that you know he is #57 in the picture, the first player facing you. I enjoy entering local bakeoffs and contests, creating handmade cards and am active in my local MOPS group. I have a extensive collection of cookbooks, but have found that Zaar has taken care of my appetite for any hands on cookbooks. I just love to bake, especially for the high school football team here during the fall. It is my favorite time of the year......sweaters, bonfires, leaves, pumpkins, caramel apples, football, all the stuff about fall is fun!
