Very close ,but you're overcomplicating it. =) It's literally Penne pasta, and equal parts heavy cream and Velveeta. So you would melt 4oz. of cheese with 4oz. of heavy cream and pour it over the pasta and toss. I know this for a fact. Wink-wink. =)
Audie521 has got it right! 4 oz. of cheese with penne pasta in microwave, then add 4 oz. of heavy cream and stir. I also know this for a fact LOL :D
"Some of the best macaroni and cheese I've ever eaten." Actual quote! I loved the texture.
I had some Kraft Singles in the fridge & wanted to make them into mac & cheese: this was a good one! I did saute a little onion before adding the flour as suggested by rkdance. Next time I might put breadcrumbs or french fried onions on top & broil a few min.
This is not an outaback copycat. Have not made it, but just looking at ingredients i know it's not it. Having eaten there many, many times, i can tell you it has a blend of two cheese's. one white and one yellow but i haven't figured them out yet. I keep on searching recipe sites and to no avail yet......
This is always a holiday dinner staple. We love it!
Definitely will not make again. This tasted like I was eating pasta with melted velveeta cheese. That was what is was anyways!! It resembled Outback's pasta and had the same consistency, but the taste was not the same.
I could achieve the same results with cheese whiz and a dash of paprika.
This recipe is spot on and just like Outbacks Mac-a-roo and cheese. My kids thank you Kzim4!!!
I made this last night for my sister who loves outbacks mac and cheese! She loved it and actually thought it was better! I would make one change and use penne pasta and not the rigatoni because she said outback uses a small penne. Thanks for sharing we will be making this again!
