Our Favorite Wheat Bread

ingredients
- 14.79 ml dry yeast
- 473.18 ml warm water
- 59.14 ml soft butter
- 29.57 ml molasses
- 59.14 ml honey
- 4.92 ml salt
- 709.77 ml whole wheat flour
- 473.18 ml white flour
directions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water.
- Combine butter, molasses, honey, and salt.
- Mix well.
- Add yeast mixture.
- Gradually add flour.
- Turn onto floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Place in greased bowl and let rise until double.
- Punch down.
- Let dough rest a few minutes.
- Shape into 2 loaves.
- Place in greased bread pans.
- Let rise about 1 hour.
- Bake at 375° for 35-40 minutes.

EXCELLENT! I made this yesterday and although I had to substitute applesauce for butter (can't have dairy) it turned out fantastic. As a matter of fact, my toddler (a white bread lover) wanted this for her pbj sandwich today, she actully requested it over the white bread! I also added 2 TBS wheat gluten to mixture.

Have made this twice using a stand mixer. The first time I substituted olive oil for butter and had good but slightly greasy results. Yesterday I followed the recipe exactly and the loaves had a better texture, but not quite as tasty. Maybe I'll use both fats on the next batch. Very good, easy bread.
