      I was excited to make this to help it get a review... sorry I couldn't be more generous with my stars. :(
      Whoopie pies and Oreo's aren't really alike... this is a whoopie pie. The "cookie" is a cake texture. I was going for an oreo. I tried smashing them when I first pulled them out of the oven as I have done with other "oreo" recipes but it never crisped up. I was using these for a project ("turkeys") but I was able to make it work in the end. I chose this recipe because I was intrigued by the flour/milk mixture for the filling. I thought this might reduce the "super sweetness". I DID reduce the sweetness, however, it still tasted like Crisco. Not pleasant at all. If I were to try the filling again I would use butter in place of the shortening.
