Questions & Replies

  1. Hi thank you for your recipe. I tried it and I was wondering if the gelatin is supposed to turn to jello because mine did and it didn't dissolve into the icing. Did I simmer it too long?

  2. Can you use pectin instead of gelatin or another vegan substitute?

  3. Does it really taste like the filling in Oreo cookies ?

  1. This was the closest I've found in both texture and taste to the actual commercial Oreo filling, rather than just a buttercream frosting variant. To test it, I halved the recipe for all ingredients (but kept the full 1 tsp vanilla). I used half butter and half shortening rather than all shortening to add some richness. I also added about 1/3 cup flour while I beat it in the mixer. Turned out perfectly, didn't have to beat it the full 10 minutes. The flour gave it a very slightly crumbly texture, so I could lightly roll it into little balls to squish between 2 cookies for optimal presentation. Excellent! Thank you to the recipe creator for the inspiration of the gelatine and to one of the commenters for the flour idea.

  2. Following the directions, it was too crumbly rather than creamy so I added more water. I added a bit too much so be careful if you do the same. Also, this makes a LOT. I’d recommend halving the recipe - maybe still using a full packet of gelatin so it sets up like real Oreo filling? At any rate, it tastes great!

  3. Sounds like it will be great! Just one question...when do you add the dissolved gelatin? I would love to make this, but would rather wait until there is a more complete set of directions.

  4. a package of regular Oreos has 45 cookies, so if you want to have an equal amount of cream that is in a package of Oreos, multiply the recipe by 4.5! Like

  5. Great recipe even it surely is not amount for 10 cookies, probably for about 30.

Tweaks

  1. The Recipe is close to phenomenal what I did is I added two 1/8th cups of canola oil and five 1/2 cups of white flour to make the consistency of the Oreo cookie filling be/taste exactly like Nabisco's Oreo Cookie Filling.
