Ever tried an orange tea biscuit? No, why not? These are wonderful served with fried chicken. You will not believe how much you'll enjoy them. Also excellant with a cup of hot tea.

  1. In large bowl combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tarter, orange rind and orange peel, stirring well.
  2. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  3. Mix buttermilk and orange juice together, stir to mix well and pour over flour mixture, combing quickly, dough will be soft.
  4. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface, knead gently 10 times and pat into 1/2" or 3/4 " thickness.
  5. Cut the dough with a 3" cookie round.
  6. Brush biscuits with milk.
  7. Dip sugar cube in orange juice and press into top of biscuit.
  8. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 450 degrees.
  9. for 13 - 15 minutes.

Delicious! I don't make biscuits or cakes often so I was way outside my comfort zone and not at all sure how these would turn out! I did, therefore, really appreciate the very clear, easy-to-follow instructions. I reduced the salt and omitted the sugar cubes but otherwise made these exactly to the recipe. Quick and easy to make, and I wouldn't change a thing, unless I were perhaps in the mood to add more orange zest! Thanks for sharing this recipe, Baby Kato.
