Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375°.
  2. Mix together shortening, butter, sugar, egg and vanilla.
  3. Stir together flour, soda and salt.
  4. Add to shortening mixture.
  5. Stir well.
  6. Mix into dough grated orange rind.
  7. Drop batter by rounded teaspoonfuls about 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake until delicately browned, 10 to 12 minutes.
  9. Cookies should be soft.
  10. Cool slightly and remove from cookie sheet.
  11. Glaze: Mix together sugar, juice and rind.
  12. Dip hot cookies into glaze and place on baking rack.
