Orange Julius With the Secret Ingredient!

"Well, I can't tell you HOW I got the "secret ingredient", but it's one of those things where you kind of say to yourself, "Now why didn't I think of that"? Coffee creamer! The powdered kind. That's it--simple I know! I grew up on these things--a must have at the mall--and trying to make them at home just wasn't quite right....try this. You may need to fiddle with the amounts some. When I make this recipe the blender is topped off - about 1/2 inch from the rim, but I don't really measure anything when I make it--i just throw stuff in until it tastes right."

  1. Actually the "secret ingredient" is dry milk powder and egg white powder... This is the actual recipe they were trained to make in the early 80s, so its probably still how they make it today.. 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice 1/2 cup simple syrup 1 tsp. dry milk powder 1 tsp. egg white powder 1/2 tsp. of vanilla (this is the only part that differs because vanilla powder has to be purchased on-line or in a specialty bake shop) Fill the rest of the blender up with crushed ice

  2. We just made these and the flavor is spot on with the Orange Julius chain. I saw other reviews that it was chunky, so we put our oranges through our juicer first then put all the ingredients in the blender. Fantastic! I have another 8lbs of oranges to use up so I see more of this in our future. Thanks for posting!

  3. We used splenda to sweeten.. you need two small packets instead of 1/4 cup of sugar. We also used French Vanilla coffee creamer (powdered) it gave it a nice flavor. I couldn't fit everything into the blender though. We will be making peach Julius and Strawberry Banana ones next!

  4. I asked the girl who made mine & she told me there's coconut powder in it.....I feel that's what's missing from all the recipes I looked up!

  5. For those allergic to coconut, beware! The powdered version of Coffee-Mate's 'French Vanilla' is made with coconut............. Found this out the hard way.................
